The Houthis hold Yemen's entire Red Sea coast and the Yemeni side of Bab el-Mandeb and extended their reach across Saudi Arabia on Sept 14 and 15, with missile and drone attacks on Khamis Mushait, Abha and Taif that the Saudi-led coalition says wounded 13 civilians and prompted the first emergency alerts for Mecca of the war. Their ground advance was checked in western Taiz on Sept 14 by Saudi-backed government forces operating under heavy Saudi air cover.
