JNIM (al-Qaeda Sahel)

5Severe
Assessed 15 September 2026

Assessment

JNIM sustains the fuel blockade that keeps Bamako on escorted convoys, having destroyed more than 300 tankers on the Kayes and Segou corridors since September 2025, and has shifted from storming cities to strangling them economically. It struck Bamako and Kati in April, hit Niamey airport in June, and is expanding incursions into northern Benin and Togo, with no verified change in its posture through Sept 15.
